Home Again, Home again, Jiggity-Jig!

Image
This week we are moving again!  We can't seem to stay in one place more than 3 months... :)  We are really excited to go back to Utah for the holidays and wait for David's first assignment. Here are some last bits of life here in the Springs: *** Kyla loves cream of wheat.  She snuck up and started eating Tay's, what a cute mess!  So tired!  Cute Halloween shirts on cute kiddos: Morning cuddles:  Tay & Ky like to 'cook' while I am making dinner: Making 'punkamin' cookies:  This is how I find Taylor most nights, often with piles of books around him:

Longtime Friends

Image
Adam & Jeanne Shelton and their cute baby Zoey came to spend a long weekend with us the day my mom left.  We have missed hanging out with them as much since they moved to Logan a few years ago.  It was great to have a full weekend together.  *** We went to the prison museum in Canon City:  They treated us to a delicious lunch:  We took the Cog Railway up to the top of Pike's Peak    The amazing view: We enjoyed delicious hot chocoloate and donuts at the top:   We walked around and window shopped in Manitou Springs: Taylor asks to take a picture with these birds every time we are there. AND - we took them to our favorite zoo (2 trips in 1 week!):

Mom to the Rescue

Image
My mom flew in for a few days this last week to help me out - i.e. feed my kids since I've been too sick to give them much more than toast with honey. :)  We had some fun outings while she was here. *** Our favorite zoo: The Will Rogers Shrine:  Seven Falls & hiking above the falls:  She babysat for us while we went to a wonderful lunch that the USAFA JA office had as goodbye to David. I loved getting to spend time with all of the wonderful people he worked with the past little while!  She also babysat while I had an ultrasound and saw a healthy, adorable Dayton Baby #3!  Not much more than 2 inches long, but already sucking his/her little thumb - so so amazing to see.  I've never had an ultrasound before 20 weeks before. Thanks for taking care of me for a few days Mom!

Denver Zoo

Our friends gave us tickets to the Denver Zoo, so last week when David had a day off we went.  It was so much fun, thanks Clawsons! The best part of the day was watching this:

Elation!

We have had one of the best days EVER.  We got a call this morning that David was selected to be in the Air Force JAG Corps.  (Attorney for the Air Force)  We have been waiting/applying since last year when they met and didn't hire anyone because of cut-backs.  He has been really wanting this and his internship at USAFA the last few months has made him want it even more.  The odds were really terrible - they hired less than 5% of the applicants, so we are elated!!!  We will be moving back to Utah in a few weeks to wait for our assignment.  I am SO excited to be home for the holidays. *** AND... it is especially good to find out he has a job because: Yep!  Dayton Baby #3 is due to arrive May 7, 2012! I'm feeling as sick as with my other two pregnancies, but it will be worth it! Here is the video we sent our families:

General Conference Weekend

Image
We always love General Conference Weekend. It means we get 2 days of wearing church clothes in our house!!! Anyway, a couple of weeks ago we got to enjoy lots of wonderful talks from our amazing church leaders. We are especially excited about the new Provo Temple that was announced.  *** This is the first time we have had to watch conference on the internet.  So weird.  (Actually we drove 30+ minutes to get to the stakehouse for each session all through my childhood, so this was much better.)   We made aebleskivers - an O'Brien family specialty.  We had a fun couple of days listening to the wonderful and inspiring messages while playing.  Kyla feeding her baby 'bekfest'.

Mid-September Utah Trip

Image
I headed out to Utah with the kids on a Friday last month.  The 9 hour drive was way better than I expected - I left at 5am, that helped.  David flew into SLC the next Wednesday after an interview.  We had so much fun meeting our newest nieces - Adelyn and Avery, and spending time with all of the cousins.  My sister is living in SJ while her husband is deployed in Afghanistan, and all of David's sisters + their kids planned to be there for a few days at the same time.  It was a blast!  We love being with family. *Helping/watching me pack the day before.*  *Our one stop during the drive* *More driving...* *Uncle Benjy took the kids on a horse, well, Kyla only lasted a few seconds...poor girl, she was terrified!*  *Swimming with all of the Dayton cousins.  The weather was perfect and the water felt so nice!*  *We made a fort at the Peterson house (it was actually an effort to soften the b...
